Melissa Sheehy

After working as an Occupational Therapist (OT) for a decade, I started Balanced Fitness & Health in 2015 with the goal of helping people live healthy, pain-free lives. My customized work with businesses and individuals has been very rewarding.

Our approach is to consider whole person’s well-being, self-esteem, and health. My unique blend of capabilities in OT, exercise and nutrition enable me to offer excellent results for corporate wellness and ergonomics, including injury prevention and worker safety.

I joined PWN to network and share what Balanced Fitness & Health can do in the workplace to create at work stretching programs that will improve productivity and prevent repetitive injuries. I also provide rehabilitation for those who have experienced injury or surgery.

This has been a very busy year for us. We recently moved to a new location in Hiawatha, and have added a physical therapist and administrative assistant to our team. We were also selected as a 2016 Invest in She contestant, which will be held at The Hotel Kirkwood on June 14, 2016.

I’m very excited to be involved in PWN and look forward to meeting more professional women and learning about their businesses!

In the past year PWN has grown leaps and bounds due a dynamic leadership team and a new focus to help women succeed. This past year I have joined the membership committee as a way to bring awareness to women who do not know this organization is there to support them”.

PWN Featured Member: Marcia Sebetka-DeLosReyes, LMT & Owner of Anahata Massage and Wellness Center

rsz_marcia Marcia is the owner of Anahata Massage and Wellness Center. She is a graduate of Carlson College of Massage Therapy and a professional member of the American Massage Therapy Association. Upon graduating from Carlson, Marcia began the process of furthering her education in Lymph Drainage Therapy through the Chikly Health Institute and Cranio-Sacral Therapy through the Upledger Institute. Marcia is passionate about these modalities because she understands their advantages in various applications.

Marcia shares her story on why she is a member of PWN below:

I love what I do, and I get such satisfaction at the end of the day knowing I helped my clients with their pain, emotional issues, and so much more!  PWN is a great network of women helping women.  It’s great to surround yourself by women who have been there and made it, or sometimes it’s offering a reassuring word to those who are working to pursue their dreams.  The networking opportunities allow you to promote your business to continue to stay on task and realize your goals.

I haven’t been a member of PWN for long, but I hope to touch at least one person and help them to see even though it isn’t always easy, there is a group of great women they may turn to for support in achieving their goals.  I look forward to meeting more members and hearing their stories!

Marcia is new to PWN having just joined in December. In her short time with the group she has been very generous with her time and talents; providing chair massages at the February meeting and a basket for the scholarship fundraiser. She is also contributing to the PWN Perks program. As part of this she is offering PWN members 20% off massage appointments of 60 minutes or longer.

Please take a moment to introduce yourself to Marcia at our next meeting!

PWN Featured Member: Brenda Markwardt, Office Manager, Diversity Focus

Brenda Markwardt photo (2)Brenda Markwardt is the Office Manager for Diversity Focus. She works closely with CEO/President, Chad Simmons, regarding office communications, staff, events and meetings. Prior to joining Diversity Focus, Brenda was an independent travel agent. She also has a background as a sales executive for the Clarion Hotel & Convention Center, as well as a Human Resources Recruiter Coordinator and a Human Resource Information Systems Coordinator. Brenda earned an Associate of Arts degree in business administration from Kirkwood Community College and has completed coursework in business management at Mount Mercy University.

Brenda shares her story on why she is a member of PWN below:

“I initially joined PWN as part of a new job when I inherited the membership. I’ve stayed in PWN since that time because I like the ease of meeting new people due to the “table seating assignments” at each meeting! This format really forces you to network and meet new people, tho it’s always great to see familiar faces and catch up! I know it can be difficult for women to connect outside of their work environments, so I like the welcoming social aspect of our meetings too.

I believe as a woman, it is important for us to work together to not only stand up for our rights, but to connect with and support other women to help strengthen their journey to accomplishing their goals too – and making some great friends along the way is a super bonus!!”

Brenda is a great champion of PWN; take a moment and introduce yourself at the next meeting on February 25th!

During this breakfast event emceed by CBS2 news anchor, Karen Fuller, you will hear from national keynote speaker John K.Coyle.

John is the Founder of The Art of Really Living, and will present Go Counterclockwise. Design Your Life Around Experiences vs. Chronological Time.

Can time be reversed? How can you get more out of your day and your life by unwinding cognitive time and live forever? Our brains process time in a non-linear manner.

As a silver Olympian and innovator, John describes how we experience and remember time, and why we feel that time is accelerating and life is flying by faster every year. He will explore practical actions you can take to reverse this process, so you are able to experience life with more meaning and memories.

You will:
  • Understand how cognitive biases in your brain cause time to accelerate.
  • Discover actions you can take to slow, stop and reverse the process of time slipping away.
  • Learn how to design your life to create intense and memorable time-expanding experiences.

This can’t miss event is being held from 8:00 am – 10:00 am at the DoubleTree by Hilton Cedar Rapids.
